Beanie with Beard

Beanie with Beard

Materials:

Skein of yarn for the beanie

Skein of yarn for the beard (this is Lion Brand Fun Fur in Chocolate)

Size 11 circular needles 16″

Size 11 double pointed needles 6″

stitch marker (I just use a small rubber band)

needle or crochet hook to weave in ends

Now I didn’t make up this pattern, I saw it on Pinterest.

This is the website that I got it from. The only thing I did different was that I bought the Lion Brand Fun Fur yarn for the beard so that it looked hairy. Thankfully that yarn is very forgiving since I don’t know how to make an applied I cord I just made the I cord and stitched it across the beard except the mouth which made the provisional cast on useless but that’s alright. The other change that I made was that I put buttons on the edges of the beard instead of stitching it into the beanie so that the wearer can remove it if they choose.

Magnetic Make-up Board

Magnetic Make-up Board

I finally collected all the supplies and made one. It was not an original idea, I took it off of Pinterest but here is how I did it.

Materials:

Picture frame

I chose one with a scroll design on it and it is 16″ X 20″

Sheet Metal large enough to fit inside the frame

Tin Snips to cut the sheet metal

Fabric

Spray Adhesive

Magnets

Super glue

Steps:

1. Measure the inside of the frame and cut the sheet metal to fit. I traced the matting that was inside the frame onto the sheet metal with a sharpie.

2. Iron your fabric and cut to fit if necessary with some room to wrap around the back of the sheet metal. I bought a small square of fabric that was already cut to 18″ X 21″.

3. Make sure your cut sheet metal fits in the frame before you go any farther! If it does then spray the metal with the spray adhesive, coat it really well, and stick the fabric to it. I let it dry overnight just to be safe and then put it in the frame.

4. Lay out all the make up you want to put on the board and get out the magnets and super glue. I read online that you could do it with hot glue so that it could be removed later but that didn’t work for me, maybe because of the magnets I bought. Put just a dot of superglue on the magnet and stick it to the back of the make up.

let the super glue dry and then hang up the make up on the board

The only thing I have left to do is find some sort of a cup that I like to put on and hold my eyeliners and mascara and such, they sell pre-made ones at craft stores and walmart in the office section so I think I will just buy one. I have seen them made with old prescription bottles that were painted and then had a magnet attacked but I don’t want to have to paint them to match!

Wavy Scarf

Wavy Scarf

So I was asked by a relative to make a scarf for his girlfriend. He decided it should be black and green and she wanted to edges to be wavy instead of straight. I had some green and black yarn on hand so I made up a pattern and went to work.

I used size 10 straight needles and made up this pattern:

Cast on 17 stitches

Rows 1-3 Knit and all odd rows

4- K2Tog, K13, K2Tog

6-K2Tog, K11, K2Tog

8-K2Tog, K9, K2Tog

10-K2Tog, K7, K2Tog

12-K2Tog, K5, K2Tog

14- Knit

16-K,Incr, K5, Incr, K

18-K, Incr, K7, Incr, K

20-K, Incr, K9, Incr, K

22-K, Incr, K11, Incr, K

24-K, Incr, K13, Incr, K

Repeat until desired length. Because I used two yarns simultaneously I increased by knitting each yarn separately on the increase stitch but you can increase any way that you like. Also I ran out of green before the scarf was long enough so I used the pattern to make the ends of the scarf in a different green.

notice the change in color which I added afterwards

and here it is again

Infinity Scarf

Infinity Scarf

I was inspired to make an infinity scarf by some yarn I found on sale. So this is how I went about making one.

Materials:

1 Skein (104 yards) Country Loom Yarn (I picked a color called Magic Carpet)

Size 10 knitting needles

Yarn Needle

Steps:

1. Cast on 21 stitches and leave a long tail to use later. Knit every row until the skein is gone. For me that made the scarf 33 inches long.

2. Holding one end of the scarf in each hand, make a single twist in the scarf and then line up the edges to create a loop. Use the yarn needle and the long tail to stitch the two ends together.

Simple as that.

Earring Displays

Earring Displays

So I discovered recently that I own many pairs of earrings. Unfortunately I do not wear most of them because I have forgotten that I own them. Well it is time to get rid of all the boxes and bags and various place that I keep all these earrings.

First project…Earring Displays.

Supplies needed:

Wooden frame(s)Image

Sheet(s) of plastic mesh canvas (colored or white)

Paint

Image

Foam brush

Superglue

Scissors

Step 1 – Paint the wooden frame(s) in your choice of color, I chose a color called ‘Kiwi” because it goes with my bathroom decor. Allow the paint to dry according to the instructions and then put a second coat of color on the frame.

Image

Step 2 – Once the paint is completely dry, lay the plastic mesh canvas on top of the inner frame and cut to fit inside. Make sure to cut the mesh on a solid line so that you can super glue it to the frame easily.

Image

Step 3 – Flip the frames over so that the painted side is down and glue the canvas just around the edge of the inner frame.

Image

The edge on the left is how not to cut the canvas. It took almost 5 gluing sessions to get that side to sitck! Allow the super glue to dry, I left it alone overnight just to be safe. Finished product looks like this

Then you add your earrings to it. If the mesh comes loose then just glue it again and allow to dry.

I had so many earrings that I made 3 of these. I used 1 for studs and the other 2 for danglie earrings and then hung them in my bathroom.

And that’s it! Just a cute and fun easy project, could be done as a gift or with kids. Just be careful with the superglue…it can be very sticky!
